32-year old lefty swinging 1B Adam LaRoche has opted out of his half of a mutual option for 2013, valued at $10 million bucks. LaRoche is the best 1B on the free agent market, so this was a smart move for him. LaRoche played in 154 games for the Nationals last year and he was 155 of 571 (.271 avg, .853 OPS) with 76 runs scored, 33 homers, 100 RBIs and 1 stolen base. He played in 197 games in his two years with the Nationals and he was 181 of 722 (.251 avg, .788 OPS) with 91 runs scored, 36 homers, 115 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. The Nationals might be content to move Mike Morse to 1B and try to sign or deal for another outfielder over the winter.
