The Nationals have signed 29-year old lefty swinging 1B/3B Mike Costanzo to a minor league deal. He played in 17 games for the Reds in his first taste of the majors last year and he was 1 for 18 (.056 avg, .151 OPS) with 0 runs scored, 0 homers and 2 RBIs. He also whiffed an amazingly awful 10 times while only walking 1 time for the Reds last year. Costanzo also played in 107 games in AA+AAA-ball last year in which he was 92 of 343 (.268 avg, .807 OPS) with 49 runs scored, 12 homers and 51 RBIs. He will likely open the 2013 season in AAA-ball for the Nationals.
