Wizards blown out in OT by Nets and lose 105-93

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Monday 13 November 2006 at 5:04 pm

The Wizards out-rebounded the Nets 54-43, but were blown out in OT 18-6!  Gilbert Arenas had a decent game with 25 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.  Caron Butler filled up the boxscore with 17 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists.  Antwan Jamison had an off-night, hitting only 3 of 16 shots from the floor.  Jamison finished with 9 points & 8 rebounds.

The Wizards need to win games like this on their own court.  The Wizards are now sitting at 3-3 on the season.

Wizards have a huge 4th quarter and prevail 116-111

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Saturday 11 November 2006 at 11:34 am

Things were not looking too good at the start of the 4th quarter with the Wizards trailing the Bucks 85-76.  Then the Wizards flipped the switch and dominated the 4th quarter 40-26 to win the game.  Gilbert Arenas had a great game with 29 points, 5 rebounds & 11 assists.  Antwan Jamison backed Arenas up with 24 points & 8 rebounds.  Jarvis Hayes really helped out off of the bench with 15 points.  Caron Butler filled up the boxscore with 14 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.  Antonio Daniels was also huge off of the bench with 13 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists.  DeShawn Stevenson pitched in with 10 points.

What a great win for the Wizards who snatched victory from the Jaws of Defeat!  The Wizards are now 3-2 on the season.

Wizards improve to 2-2 after thrashing the Pacers

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Wednesday 8 November 2006 at 10:13 pm

The Wizards won this basketball game 117-91, and it was never close.  Gilbert Arenas had a fantastic game.  Arenas only played 32 minutes, but he scored 40 points, dished out 4 assists and had 3 steals!  Antwan Jamison filled up the boxscore with 19 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals.  Caron Butler also had a stat-stuffer with 12 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals.  Brendan Haywood was very active off of the bench with 9 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks.  DeShawn Stevenson pitched in with 10 points.

The Wizards played a great all-around game as they shot 51.8% from the floor and held the Pacers to 38.6% shooting.

Wizards fall to Magic 106-103

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Tuesday 7 November 2006 at 3:37 pm

The Wizards have huge problems rebounding and playing defense and it hurt them last night.  The Magic shot 50.6% from the floor against the Wizards.  Antwan Jamison led the way for the Wizards with 29 points & 10 rebounds.  Gilbert Arenas scored 24 points, dished out 6 assists and stole the ball 4 times.  Center Etan Thomas had another fantastic game for the Wizards with 14 points, 15 rebounds and 6 blocked shots.  Caron Butler (16 points) and Antonio Daniels (10 points) each pitched in.

The Wizards need to fix their defense and rebounding or they will be in deep trouble as the season goes on.

Darius Songaila has surgery

Blogged under Front Page, Injuries by Nothing but Net on Monday 6 November 2006 at 6:04 pm

Songaila had surgery to repair a herniated disc in his lower back.  He will be out at least 10 weeks, putting his return sometime in January.  This hurts the Wizards, because they were depending on him to give Antwan Jamison a breather once in a while and keep him fresh.

Power Forwards

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Monday 6 November 2006 at 5:59 pm

Antwan Jamison had a great season last year and fits in perfectly with the Wizards.  Jamison averaged 20.5 points, 9.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game last year.  Jamison is a fine scorer and a good offensive rebounder.  For his career, Jamison has averaged 19.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.

Michael Ruffin will be the #1 back-up until January due to an injury to Darius Songaila.  Ruffin is basically a good rebounder and defender that adds nothing to the offense.  Ruffin has career averages of 1.8 points & 4.2 rebounds per game.

Darius Songaila has averaged 7.0 points & 3.8 rebounds per game in an average of 18.4 minutes per game, and will get alot of playing time when he gets healthy.

Wizards win track meet 124-117 over Celtics

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Sunday 5 November 2006 at 1:40 am

The Wizards didn’t play defense, allowing the Celtics to hit 52.9% of their FGs.  The Wizards also didn’t rebound, as they were out-rebounded 43-28.  The Wizards were so hot on offense (52.4%) that they didn’t have many rebounds to get.  Gilbert Arenas was unstoppable, scoring 44 points and dishing out 6 assists.  Antwan Jamison scored 29 points and added 8 rebounds.  Caron Butler had a boxscore stuffing game, scoring 20 points, grabbing 4 rebounds, dishing out 4 assists and stealing the ball 5 times.  Antonio Daniels was the only player off of the bench that helped out, scoring 15 points.

Wizards fall to Cavs 97-94

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Friday 3 November 2006 at 11:47 am

The Wizards played the Cavs tough, but it’s hard to win when you get out-rebounded 50-33!  Caron Butler led the Wizards with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals.  Antwan Jamison scored 20 points and blocked 2 shots.  Etan Thomas had a good game, scoring 14 points (7 for 7 from the field) grabbing 5 rebounds and blocking 2 shots.  Gilbert Arenas had a rough night as Larry Hughes was all over him from the opening tip on.  Arenas only shot 2 for 12 and scored 7 points.  Arenas had 5 rebounds, 11 assists and 2 steals also.

The Wizards need to rebound better or they are in trouble.

Shooting Guards

Blogged under Front Page by Nothing but Net on Friday 3 November 2006 at 11:38 am

DeShawn Stevenson finally got a chance to prove what he can do when he started for the Orlando Magic last season and averaged 11.0 points per game.  Stevenson is not much of a shooter and scores most of his points in the paint or just a little outside of it.  Stevenson has averaged 7.6 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in his NBA career.

Jarvis Hayes will share minutes with Stevenson and could eventually beat him out for the job if he can stay healthy.  Hayes does quite a few things better on the court than Stevenson does, so we’ll see how long it will be before Hayes is playing more minutes than Stevenson.  Hayes has never been much of a shooter, but he has averaged 9.8 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 0.9 steals per game in his career.
