Blogged under Big Wizards News, Bloglockers, Comings & Goings, Front Page by alleyoop on Friday 17 August 2007 at 4:43 pm

The Washington Wizards have re-signed reserve forward Andray Blatche.  He will likely get a few more minutes on the floor with Jarvis Hayes leaving for Detroit.  Blatche played in 56 games (13 starts) last season for the Wizards and he averaged 12.2 minutes, 3.7 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.  He needs to improve his shooting especially as most of his shots come from close range.  He shot 43.7% from the floor, 14.8% from three point range and 61.2% from the free throw line.

Blatche has now played in 85 games (13 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 10.1 minutes, 3.2 points, 2.7 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game.  Blatche has shot 42.4% from the floor, 17.5% from three point range and 65.6% from the free throw line over his career.

The Wizards have re-signed Donell Taylor to a 1-year, non-guaranteed contract.  He will have to bust his butt and improve his game if he wants to keep playing for the Wizards.  Taylor played in 47 games (1 start) last season with the Wizards and he averaged 7.9 minutes, 2.7 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game.  He also didn’t shoot too well as he only hit 40% from the floor, 17.6% from the three point line and 52.4% from the free throw line.

Taylor has now played in 98 games (2 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 8.5 minutes, 2.7 points, 1.1 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game.  He also has shot 39.5% from the floor, 20.6% from three point range and 64.1% from the free throw line.

The Washington Wizards trade rookie Juan Carlos Navarro to the Grizzlies

Blogged under Big Wizards News, Bloglockers, Front Page by alleyoop on Thursday 16 August 2007 at 3:40 pm

The Washington Wizards have acquired a future first round pick from the Memphis Grizzlies for rookie Spanish guard Juan Carlos Navarro.  The Wizards selected Navarro in the 2nd round (40th pick) of the 2002 NBA Draft.  He didn’t want to play for them but the Wizards extracted a first round pick from Memphis because Navarro is Pau Gasol’s buddy.  This was a good move by the Wizards.
