The Washington Wizards have acquired 29-year old G/F Mike Miller and 25-year old guard Randy Foye from the Timberwolves for the 5th pick in the NBA Draft tomorrow night along with 23-year old center Oleksiy Pecherov, 31-year old C/F Etan Thomas and 31-year old power forward Darius Songaila. Foye was the key to the trade for the Wizards as he can play either guard slot. Foye played in 70 games (61 starts) last season for the Timberwolves and he averaged 35.6 minutes, 16.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.0 steal per game. Foye has now played three seasons in the NBA and he has appeared in 191 games (104 starts) in which he has averaged 29.5 minutes, 13.0 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. Mike Miller can handle either shooting guard or small forward. He played in 73 games (47 starts) for the T-Wolves last season and he averaged 32.3 minutes, 9.9 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. Miller has now played in 638 games (478 starts) in his NBA career and he has averaged 32.3 minutes, 13.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game. Miller is deadly from three point range where he has connected on 40.1% of his attempts in his NBA career.
The only player in this trade that the Wizards could possibly miss is Darius Songaila who has given them solid minutes and effort off the bench. Songaila played in 77 games (29 starts) last season for the Wizards and he averaged 19.8 minutes, 7.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game. Etan Thomas played in 26 games (7 starts) for the Wizards last season and he averaged 3.1 points, 2.5 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game. Oleksiy Pecherov might be young at 23 years old but the Wizards don’t think he has much of a upside. Pecherov played in 32 games (0 starts) last season and he averaged 8.7 minutes, 3.6 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.1 assists per game. Unless the first round pick the Wizards gave up in this trade turns out to be the next D-Wade or LeBron they really stiffed the T-Wolves.
