The Washington Wizards are getting solid production from the front line

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Steppin Up by alleyoop on Thursday 25 November 2010 at 8:28 pm

24-year old power forward Andray Blatche and 23-year old center JaVale McGee are both off to good starts for the Wizards this year. Blatche has played in 13 games (all starts) for the Wizards this season and he is averaging 35.0 minutes, 16.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.2 steals per game. He has an upside of even putting up better numbers than he has already this season so it will be up to John Wall to get him the ball. JaVale McGee is a classic defensive and rebounding center. McGee has played in 13 games (all starts) for the Wizards this year and he is averaging 28.3 minutes, 10.0 points, 8.6 rebounds, 0.6 assists and 2.9 blocked shots per game. McGee is shooting 59.1% from the floor with most of his shots being putbacks and dunks which explains he 62.5% shooting from the free throw line. The Wizards need the big guys to keep up the good work.

The Washington Wizards sign Alonzo Gee and release Lester Hudson

Blogged under Big Wizards News, Bloglockers, Comings & Goings, Front Page, General by alleyoop on Monday 22 November 2010 at 4:25 pm

The Wizards have signed 23-year old SG/SF Alonzo Gee. Gee played in 5 games (0 starts) for the Spurs earlier this year and he was averaging 3.6 minutes, 0.4 points and 0.6 rebounds per game. Gee has now played in 16 games (2 starts) in his first two years in the NBA and he is averaging 12.5 minutes, 5.2 points, 2.3 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. Gee played with the Wizards last season so they should be able to get him right on the court if they need him. 26-year old SG Lester Hudson played in 6 games (0 starts) for the Wizards this year and he avearged 4.5 minutes, 0.3 points, 0.2 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game.

Besides John Wall, the Washington Wizards aren’t getting much from the rookies so far

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Wednesday 17 November 2010 at 8:57 am

20-year old point guard John Wall looks like the real deal for the Wizards right now. He has played in 8 games (all starts) for the Wizards this year and he is averaging 39.3 minutes, 18.1 points, 4.0 rebounds, 9.8 assists and 3.3 steals per game. If the Wizards continue to lose like they are right now it would make sense to play the rest of the rookies so they can see what they have. 23-year old forward Trevor Booker has played in 5 games (0 starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 6.4 minutes, 1.6 points, 1.0 rebound and 1.0 assist per game. Fellow rookie forward Kevin Seraphin has only played in 1 game working 2 minutes in which he has 2 points and 1 rebound. Booker & Seraphin were both first round picks so the Wizards have high hopes for them. 24-year old power forward Hamady Ndiaye has only gotten into one game for the Wizards so far this season working 4 scoreless minutes in which he had 2 fouls.

Yi Jianlian has been softer than a roll of Charmin so far this year

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Need to step up by alleyoop on Wednesday 10 November 2010 at 6:08 pm

23-year old “power” forward Yi Jianlian is off to a bad start for the Washington Wizards. He has played in 5 games (0 starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 20.0 minutes, 7.0 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. Yi is also only shooting 37.5% from the floor which is compounding the fact that he’s shooting a lot of bricks. The Wizards need Yi to start getting a little more physical or he might see his minutes start to drop going forward.

John Wall is hitting the ground running for the Washington Wizards

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Steppin Up by alleyoop on Wednesday 10 November 2010 at 6:05 pm

20-year old rookie point guard John Wall is looking great so far this year for the Wizards. He has played in 5 games (all starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 40.0 minutes, 19.4 points, 3.2 rebounds, 9.6 assists and 2.6 steals per game. But, Wall plays a tad out of control at times as he is averaging 5.8 turnovers per game so far this year. Overall though, Wall looks like the real deal and he likes to keep all of his teammates involved in the action which is great.

New York Knicks 112, Washington Wizards 91

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Game Recaps, General by alleyoop on Saturday 6 November 2010 at 4:14 pm

The Wizards didn’t play any D last night as the Knicks shot 50.6% from the floor and they were also outscored 31-18 which explains the loss. Andray Blatche led the way for the Wizards in this game with 22 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 3 steals. Gilbert Arenas pitched in with 18 points, 1 rebound, 1 assist and 1 steal in 26 minutes on the court. John Wall only shot 4 of 11 from the floor and he had 9 turnovers but he still finished up with 13 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists. The Wizards are now 1-3 on the year.

Washington Wizards 116, Philadelphia 76ers 115 in OT

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, Game Recaps, General by alleyoop on Wednesday 3 November 2010 at 1:56 pm

The Wizards didn’t play any D last night (the Sixers shot 55% from the floor) but it didn’t matter in the end. Cartier Martin only played 9 minutes in this game finishing with 6 points and 1 rebound but he made the game tying 3-point shot to send this game into O.T. with only 0.4 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Rookie John Wall led the way for the Wizards with a outstanding effort as he finished up with 29 points, 2 rebounds, 13 assists and 9 steals. Andray Blatche (23 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal on 5 of 17 shooting from the floor) and Nick Young (20 points, 2 rebounds and 1 steal) also had solid games for the Wizards last night. The Wizards are now 1-2 on the year.

Al Thornton is playing well so far for the Washington Wizards

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Steppin Up by alleyoop on Tuesday 2 November 2010 at 7:30 pm

27-year old small forward Al Thornton is off to a good start for the Wizards this year. Thornton has started both of the Wizards games so far this year and he is averaging 33.5 minutes, 16.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.0 assist and 1.5 steals per game. Thornton is also shooting 58.3% from the floor so far this year. Thornton will continue to get a ton of playing time as long as he keeps playing well as the Wizards need whatever offensive punch they can find right now.
