The Washington Wizards shut down Bradley Beal for the rest of the 2012-13 season

Blogged under Big Wizards News, Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by joelapinski on Thursday 4 April 2013 at 6:48 am

The Wizards have shut down 19-year old rookie shooting guard Bradley Beal for the rest of the 2012-13 season due to a stress injury in his right fibula.  He played in 56 games (46 starts) overall this year for the Wizards and he averaged 31.2 minutes, 13.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.  After the All-Star break, Beal played in 12 games (7 starts) in which he averaged 31.9 minutes, 16.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.  He got better as the season wore on and he has a very, very bright future for the Wizards.

The Washington Wizards will be without Martell Webster for a while

Blogged under Big Wizards News, Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by joelapinski on Friday 29 March 2013 at 10:17 pm

The Wizards will be without 26-year old small forward Martell Webster for at least the next two weeks due to an abdominal injury.  Webster has played in 68 games (54 starts) for the Wizards overall this year and he is averaging 29.1 minutes, 11.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.  This is a bad break for both Webster and the Wizards, as he was playing the best basketball of the season for them in March.  He played in 13 games (all starts) in March for the Wizards and he averaged 33.6 minutes, 15.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

UPDATE:  (3/30/2013) - Martell Webster made an amazing recovery as he returned to action last night in the Wizards’ 97-92 loss to the Magic.  He played 39 minutes last night in which he had 19 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 blocked shot.

The Washington Wizards have dealt Jordan Crawford to the Celtics

Blogged under Big Wizards News, Bloglockers, Comings & Goings, Front Page, General by joelapinski on Thursday 21 February 2013 at 1:28 pm

The Wizards have dealt 24-year old guard Jordan Crawford to the Boston Celtics for 30-year old SG/SF Leandro Barbosa.  Crawford played in 43 games (12 starts) for the Wizards this year and he averaged 26.2 minutes, 13.2 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game.  He played in 133 games (62 starts) in his three years with the Wizards and he averaged 28.2 minutes, 14.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.  The Wizards must have really wanted to deal Crawford, as Leandro Barbosa is out for the rest of the 2012-13 season due to a torn ACL.

UPDATE:  The Wizards are also getting 34-year old center Jason Collins from the Celtics.  Collins played in 32 games (7 starts) for the Celtics this year and he averaged 10.3 minutes, 1.2 points, 1.6 rebounds and 0.2 assists per game.  He is only shooting 34.8% from the floor so far this year.  Collins has now played in 707 games (474 starts) in his first 12 years in the NBA and he is averaging 20.9 minutes, 3.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game.

Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards is going to the Rising Stars Game

Blogged under Big Wizards News, Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Rookie Reports by joelapinski on Friday 1 February 2013 at 12:56 pm

19-year old rookie shooting guard Bradley Beal will be heading to the Rising Stars Game.  He has played in 41 games (39 starts) so far this year for the Wizards and he is averaging 31.0 minutes, 13.2 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.  Beal is only shooting 38.9% from the floor, 35.7% from three point range and 78.6% from the free throw line so far this year.  The Wizards hope that this honor will spark Beal to shoot better in the second half of the 2012-13 season.

John Wall is back for the Washington Wizards

Blogged under Big Wizards News, Bloglockers, Front Page, General by alleyoop on Tuesday 15 January 2013 at 6:16 pm

22-year old point guard John Wall is back for the Washington Wizards, but they are likely going to take things slowly with him P.T. wise early on. Wall has played in 2 games (0 starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 20.5 minutes, 13.0 points, 1.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists per game. He is shooting 42.1% from the floor and 90.9% from the free throw line so far this year. Wall has now played in 137 games (130 starts) in his first three years with the Wizards and he is averaging 36.7 minutes, 16.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 8.1 assists and 1.6 steals per game. Wall makes everyone on the Wizards a better player when he’s on the court, but they can’t push him too hard until his knees are closer to 100%.

The Washington Wizards sign A.J. Price

Blogged under Big Wizards News, Bloglockers, Comings & Goings, Front Page, General by alleyoop on Tuesday 24 July 2012 at 4:40 pm

The Wizards have signed 25-year old point guard A.J. Price. Price played in 44 games (1 start) for the Pacers last year in which he averaged 12.9 minutes, 3.9 points, 1.4 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game on a paltry 33.9% shooting from the floor. He has now played in 150 games (3 starts) in his first three years in the NBA and he is averaging 14.9 minutes, 6.0 points, 1.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. Price will battle Shelvin Mack for the right to back up John Wall in 2012-13.

The Washington Wizards use the amnesty clause to release Andray Blatche

Blogged under Big Wizards News, Bloglockers, Comings & Goings, Front Page, General by alleyoop on Wednesday 18 July 2012 at 8:45 am

The Washington Wizards have used the amnesty clause to release 25-year old power forward Andray Blatche. Blatche played in only 26 games (13 starts) for the Wizards last year and he averaged 24.1 minutes, 8.5 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game. He played in 409 games (176 starts) in his seven years with the Wizards and he averaged 22.7 minutes, 9.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. His immaturity cost him his job with the Wizards. It really says something when the Wizards are going to pay him $23 million bucks to let him leave.

The Washington Wizards re-sign Cartier Martin

Blogged under Big Wizards News, Bloglockers, Comings & Goings, Front Page, General by alleyoop on Friday 13 July 2012 at 8:35 am

The Wizards have re-signed 27-year old small forward Cartier Martin. Martin played in 17 games (2 starts) for the Wizards last year and he averaged 23.0 minutes, 9.3 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game. Martin has now played in 77 games (3 starts) in his first three years with the Wizards and he is averaging 13.6 minutes, 5.4 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. Martin has played in 120 games (6 starts) in his first four years in the NBA and he is averaging 13.2 minutes, 5.0 points, 1.9 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. This was a good move for the Wizards as Martin played well for them last year.

The Washington Wizards select SG Tomas Satoransky in the second round

Blogged under Big Wizards News, Bloglockers, Comings & Goings, Front Page, General, The Draft Report by alleyoop on Friday 29 June 2012 at 8:38 am

The Washington Wizards selected 20-year old SG Tomas Satoransky out of the Czech Republic with the 32nd overall pick (2nd round) of the 2012 NBA Draft. Satoransky is 6′7″, 210 pounds. He was a backup overseas last year as he only averaged 16.9 minutes, 4.8 points, 2.2 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 0.6 steals per game. Satoransky shot 50% from the floor last year, but only 27.3% from three point range. A lot of scouts like Satoransky’s game, but he’s likely a couple years away from playing in the NBA…..if he ever does.

The Washington Wizards pick SG Bradley Beal in the first round

Blogged under Big Wizards News, Bloglockers, Front Page, General, The Draft Report by alleyoop on Thursday 28 June 2012 at 7:16 pm

The Washington Wizards took 19-year old shooting guard Bradley Beal out of Florida with the 3rd overall pick of the 2012 NBA Draft. Beal is 6′3″, 207 pounds and he likes to drive to the rack. He played in 37 games for Florida last year (his only year in college) in which he averaged 34.2 minutes, 14.8 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Beal only shot 44.5% from the floor and 33.9% from three point range last year, so he has some things to work on. He did shoot better as the season went on. Beal will have a really good shot of starting right away for the Wizards.
