Randy Wittman will likely get one more year for the Washington Wizards

53-year old head coach Randy Wittman will likely get one more year with the Washington Wizards to prove that he deserves to keep his job.  Wittman led the Wizards to a 29-53 (35.4%) record, but it was a tad misleading.  The Wizards started the 2012-13 season with a 5-28 record while point guard John Wall was out of action.  When Wall returned, the Wizards were 24-25.  Wittman is now 47-84 (35.9%) in his first two years as the Wizards’ head coach.  He is now 147-291 (33.6%) in his first seven years as an NBA head coach and that is terrible.  If Wall is healthy and the Wizards struggle next season, Wittman will get fired.

Randy Wittman has been awful for the Washington Wizards

Despite not having John Wall, the Wizards spent money in dealing for Trevor Ariza and Emeka Okafor over the summer and expectations were that they could compete for the last spot in the playoffs in 2012-13. That is not happening. The Wizards have lost 8 games in a row now and they are 3-23 (11.5%) so far this year, which has them in last place in the Southeast Division, 17 games behind the Heat. The Wizards are now 21-54 (28%) in 53-year old head coach Randy Wittman’s first two years with the team. Wittman might not be in charge too much longer if the Wizards don’t start at least winning a game once in a while.

The Washington Wizards hope that Randy Wittman can motivate the troops in 2012-13

The Washington Wizards have added a lot of talent (Bradley Beal, Trevor Ariza and Emeka Okafor) over the summer, so expectations are higher for 2012-13. The Wizards ended last season strong, so the Wizards hope that they can take the next step under 52-year old head coach Randy Wittman. Wittman led the Wizards to a 18-31 (36.7%) record after he took over as the head coach in mid-season. He is now 118-238 (33.1%) in his first six years as a head coach, so he has yet to taste much success as an NBA head coach. The Wizards hope that starts to change in 2012-13.

Randy Wittman did the best he could for the Washington Wizards

52-year old Randy Wittman took over as the interim head coach when Flip Saunders was fired. When Wittman took over, the Wizards were a mess as the were 2-15. Wittman finished up with an 18-31 (36.7%) and he got the Wizards to end the 2011-12 season on a 6-game winning streak. I don’t know if the winning streak will be enough to save his job or not…..only time will tell. Wittman is now 118-238 (33.1%) in his first six years as an NBA head coach and that doesn’t inspire much confidence in him.
