The Washington Wizards shut down Bradley Beal for the rest of the 2012-13 season

Blogged under Big Wizards News, Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by joelapinski on Thursday 4 April 2013 at 6:48 am

The Wizards have shut down 19-year old rookie shooting guard Bradley Beal for the rest of the 2012-13 season due to a stress injury in his right fibula.  He played in 56 games (46 starts) overall this year for the Wizards and he averaged 31.2 minutes, 13.9 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.  After the All-Star break, Beal played in 12 games (7 starts) in which he averaged 31.9 minutes, 16.5 points, 5.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.  He got better as the season wore on and he has a very, very bright future for the Wizards.

The Washington Wizards will be without Martell Webster for a while

Blogged under Big Wizards News, Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by joelapinski on Friday 29 March 2013 at 10:17 pm

The Wizards will be without 26-year old small forward Martell Webster for at least the next two weeks due to an abdominal injury.  Webster has played in 68 games (54 starts) for the Wizards overall this year and he is averaging 29.1 minutes, 11.6 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game.  This is a bad break for both Webster and the Wizards, as he was playing the best basketball of the season for them in March.  He played in 13 games (all starts) in March for the Wizards and he averaged 33.6 minutes, 15.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game.

UPDATE:  (3/30/2013) - Martell Webster made an amazing recovery as he returned to action last night in the Wizards’ 97-92 loss to the Magic.  He played 39 minutes last night in which he had 19 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 blocked shot.

The Washington Wizards lose Cartier Martin for a while

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by alleyoop on Wednesday 23 January 2013 at 3:24 pm

The Wizards will be without 28-year old small forward Cartier Martin for at least the next week due to a knee problem. Martin has played in 23 games (0 starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 17.6 minutes, 6.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.4 assists per game. He has now played in 143 games (6 starts) in his first five years in the NBA and he is averaging 13.9 minutes, 5.2 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.5 assists on 39.4% shooting from the floor. The Wizards won’t miss Martin too much while he is out of action.

The Washington Wizards really miss John Wall

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by alleyoop on Thursday 20 December 2012 at 9:35 pm

22-year old point guard John Wall hasn’t played this year due to a knee injury and he still has no timetable for a return to action. Wall played in 66 games (all starts) for the Wizards last year and he averaged 36.2 minutes, 16.3 points, 4.5 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 1.4 steals per game. Wall has now played in 135 games (130 starts) in his first two years in the NBA and he is averaging 37.0 minutes, 16.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, 8.2 assists and 1.6 steals per game. Wall is not much of a shooter as he has only hit 41.6% from the floor, 23.6% from three point range and 77.7% from the free throw line so far in his career. Shaun Livingston and A.J. Price just aren’t getting the job done for the Wizards. The Wizards aren’t going to start winning games until they start getting better play from their point guards.

The Washington Wizards lose A.J. Price for a while

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries, Need to step up by alleyoop on Monday 10 December 2012 at 8:45 pm

The Washington Wizards lose 26-year old A.J. Price indefinitely due to a fractured right hand. Price has played in 17 games (15 starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 27.8 minutes, 8.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game. Price is only shooting 36.6% from the floor and 34.2% from three point range so far this year. 27-year old Shaun Livingston will be next up as the starting point guard for the Wizards. He has played in 9 games (2 starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 18.0 minutes, 4.2 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. Price wasn’t playing to well anyways, so maybe Livingston will give the Wizards’ improved point guard play until John Wall is ready to return to action.

The Washington Wizards lose Trevor Ariza for the next three weeks

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries, Need to step up by alleyoop on Wednesday 5 December 2012 at 6:34 pm

The Wizards have lost 27-year old small forward Trevor Ariza for at least the next three weeks due to a calf injury. Ariza has played in 15 games (13 starts) so far this year for the Wizards and he is averaging 25.1 minutes, 8.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.9 steals per game. He is only shooting 34.9% from the floor and 25.6% from three point range this year, which has caused him to recently lose his starting job. 26-year old Martell Webster is likely to benefit most from Ariza’s absence. Webster has played in 14 games (0 starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 22.3 minutes, 8.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.

The Washington Wizards lost John Wall to the next eight weeks

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries, Need to step up by alleyoop on Saturday 29 September 2012 at 7:43 am

The Wizards have lost starting point guard John Wall until around Thanksgiving due to the early stages of a stress injury in his left knee. That means he will miss most of the first month of the regular season and that is a huge blow to the Wizards. Shelvin Mack and A.J. Price will duke it out in training camp to see who gets to replace Wall in the starting lineup for the first month of the year.

The Washington Wizards lose Roger Mason for the rest of the year

Blogged under Big Wizards News, Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by alleyoop on Sunday 15 April 2012 at 3:03 pm

The Wizards will be without 31-year old SG/SF Roger Mason for the rest of the year as he needs surgery on a finger. Mason played in 52 games (0 starts) for the Wizards this year and he averaged 13.4 minutes, 5.5 points, 1.3 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game. He only shot 39.9% from the floor this year. Despite Mason’s decent play of late, I don’t see him coming back to the Wizards for the 2012-13 season.

UPDATE: (4/16/2012) - The Wizards have waived Roger Mason to make room on the active roster for Morris Almond.

The Washington Wizards will be without Andray Blatche for a while

Blogged under Big Wizards News, Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries, Need to step up by alleyoop on Monday 30 January 2012 at 7:37 pm

The Wizards are going to be without starting power forward Andray Blatche for the next 3-5 weeks due to a left calf strain. Blatche has played in 17 games (13 starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 28.5 minutes, 10.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.1 steals per game. 21-year old rookie Jan Vesely and 24-year old Trevor Booker are going to split time until Blatche is ready to return to action. Vesely has played in 13 games (2 starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 14.8 minutes, 2.6 points, 2.9 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game. Booker has played in 20 games (5 starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 17.6 minutes, 5.4 points, 4.2 rebounds, 0.5 assists and 1.0 steal per game. Booker is shooting 55.3% from the floor so far this year. The Wizards are hoping that Vesely and Booker can hold the fort until Blatche is ready to return to action.

The Washington Wizards lose Ronny Turiaf for a while

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries by alleyoop on Tuesday 3 January 2012 at 5:10 pm

The Wizards have lost 28-year old power forward Ronny Turiaf for the next 5-6 weeks due to a broken left hand. Turiaf has played in 4 games (0 starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 14.0 minutes, 1.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.5 blocked shots per game. The Wizards will miss Turiaf’s leadership and know how, but this will give the Wizards a chance to get more P.T. for some of their younger big players.
