Jan Vesely has yet to back up his big talk for the Washington Wizards

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Need to step up by joelapinski on Wednesday 17 April 2013 at 1:38 pm

When 22-year old power forward Jan Vesely was drafted two years ago….he called Blake Griffin the American version of him!  That is laughable!  Vesely has played in 50 games (4 starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 11.7 minutes, 2.4 points, 2.4 rebounds and 0.6 assists per game.  Vesely has now played in 107 games (24 starts) in his first two years with the Wizards and he is averaging 15.5 minutes, 3.6 points, 3.4 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.  He is shooting 52.3% from the floor so far in his NBA career, but only 44.6% from the free throw line and that’s just not going to cut it.  Vesely is going to have to step up his game if he wants to see more P.T. in the future for the Wizards as they are well stocked on the depth chart above him at power forward.

Garrett Temple has not taken full advantage of his big shot lately for the Washington Wizards

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Need to step up by joelapinski on Tuesday 9 April 2013 at 9:26 pm

26-year old shooting guard Garrett Temple has been starting lately in Bradley Beal’s spot, but he hasn’t done much yet with his opportunity.  Temple has played in 21 games (17 starts) since March 1st and he is averaging 26.0 minutes, 6.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.  He has now played in 46 games (31 starts) overall this year for the Wizards and he is averaging 21.5 minutes, 4.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game.  Temple isn’t likely to see his role improve with the Wizards in 2013-14, if he’s even on the team.

The Washington Wizards hope that Trevor Booker can stay healthy now

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Need to step up by joelapinski on Friday 22 February 2013 at 12:40 pm

25-year old power forward Trevor Booker has missed a huge chunk of the 2012-13 season due to wrist, ankle and knee injuries, but he’s back now and the Wizards hope he can stay healthy the rest of the season.  Booker has played in only 20 games (7 starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 17.9 minutes, 5.0 points, 4.6 rebounds and 0.9 assists per game.  He has now played in 135 games (53 starts) in his first three years with the Wizards and he is averaging 19.9 minutes, 6.4 points, 4.9 rebounds and 0.7 assists per game.  The Wizards need all the help they can get, so they have to be excited to have Booker back as he has a nice upside.

Garrett Temple was pitiful for the Washington Wizards in January

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Need to step up by joelapinski on Saturday 2 February 2013 at 6:05 pm

26-year old point guard Garrett Temple played well in December for the Wizards, but he was a nightmare in January.  Temple played in 12 games (6 starts) in January for the Wizards and he averaged 18.2 minutes, 2.8 points, 2.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game.  Temple only shot 27.3% from the floor last month.  Temple has now played in 16 games (8 starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 20.5 minutes, 3.8 points, 2.7 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game.  He is only shooting 33.8% from the floor and 18.5% (5 of 27) from three point range so far this year.  Temple better start playing better soon if he wants to keep his roster spot with the Wizards.

Martell Webster needs to step up for the Washington Wizards

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Need to step up by alleyoop on Saturday 5 January 2013 at 12:46 pm

The Wizards need a little more production out of 26-year old small forward Martell Webster. Webster has played in 36 games (16 starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 26.9 minutes, 9.1 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. But, in his 16 starts, Webster is averaging 30.9 minutes, 9.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. The Wizards need more production out of Webster if he’s going to remain in the starting lineup.

The Washington Wizards lose A.J. Price for a while

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries, Need to step up by alleyoop on Monday 10 December 2012 at 8:45 pm

The Washington Wizards lose 26-year old A.J. Price indefinitely due to a fractured right hand. Price has played in 17 games (15 starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 27.8 minutes, 8.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game. Price is only shooting 36.6% from the floor and 34.2% from three point range so far this year. 27-year old Shaun Livingston will be next up as the starting point guard for the Wizards. He has played in 9 games (2 starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 18.0 minutes, 4.2 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. Price wasn’t playing to well anyways, so maybe Livingston will give the Wizards’ improved point guard play until John Wall is ready to return to action.

The Washington Wizards lose Trevor Ariza for the next three weeks

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Injuries, Need to step up by alleyoop on Wednesday 5 December 2012 at 6:34 pm

The Wizards have lost 27-year old small forward Trevor Ariza for at least the next three weeks due to a calf injury. Ariza has played in 15 games (13 starts) so far this year for the Wizards and he is averaging 25.1 minutes, 8.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.9 steals per game. He is only shooting 34.9% from the floor and 25.6% from three point range this year, which has caused him to recently lose his starting job. 26-year old Martell Webster is likely to benefit most from Ariza’s absence. Webster has played in 14 games (0 starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 22.3 minutes, 8.9 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.

Emeka Okafor needs to step up for the Washington Wizards

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Need to step up by alleyoop on Monday 3 December 2012 at 11:26 pm

30-year old center Emeka Okafor was being counted on to be a presence in the paint for the Wizards this year, but that just hasn’t been the case so far this year, causing him to lose his starting job. Okafor has played in 14 games (12 starts) so far this year for the Wizards and he is averaging 21.9 minutes, 7.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 1.6 blocked shots per game. But, Okafor is only shooting 40.4% from the floor and he has yet to record a double/double so far this year. Okafor needs to step up off the bench if he wants to get his starting gig at center back in the near future.

A.J. Price just isn’t cutting it at point guard for the Washington Wizards

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Need to step up by alleyoop on Thursday 29 November 2012 at 10:33 am

The Wizards were expecting 26-year old point guard A.J. Price to bridge the gap as the starting point guard until John Wall was ready to return to action, but it just isn’t working out so far. Price has played in 13 games (11 starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 30.0 minutes, 9.0 points, 3.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. He is only shooting 35% from the floor and 31.7% from the three point line so far this year and that is just not getting it done. Unless he starts playing better soon, he’s going to start losing minutes to recently signed Shaun Livingston.

Bradley Beal is off to a slow start this year for the Washington Wizards

Blogged under Bloglockers, Front Page, General, Need to step up, Rookie Reports by alleyoop on Monday 26 November 2012 at 5:18 pm

The Wizards threw 19-year old rookie shooting guard Bradley Beal right to the wolves and he doesn’t appear ready for it. He has played in 11 games (9 starts) for the Wizards so far this year and he is averaging 28.2 minutes, 11.3 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. But, Beal is only shooting 32.8% from the floor and 33.3% from the three point line so far this year and that is unacceptable. He has shot 91.2% from the free throw line, which is impressive. Beal is going to have to start playing better or he’s going to lose a lot of P.T to Jordan Crawford.
